What week is it?

Is it Wear your Best to Work week? I’m all for that kind of thing. I mean, we live in a fantastic age where we have incredible choice for what to wear, so why not bust that suit out and wear it with pride? But no, no, it’s not that week.

Is it Stay in Bed week? Unfortunately no. While I would welcome the change of pace, I’m sure the economy wouldn’t enjoy workers dropping tools, wheels, keyboards and pens to take a kip.

Is it Put your Phone Away Week? I wish, I wish, I wish it was. You know how much fun it is when you can talk to someone without a black rectangle covering their face?

Alright, alright. I’ll let you in on the gag. It is, in fact –

Read an Ebook Week - Banner sized for Facebook
Smashwords Read An E-Book Week!

And to celebrate, they’ve got a bazillion titles up on discounts. 25%? Yup. 50%? You bet. 75%? Even so.

100%??? There sure are! In fact, if you head to my profile page:

https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/JeremyTyrrell

You’ll find all of my books for… free. That’s right, gratis. Go nuts. Get the entire set of Adaptation (Just get the compendium, it’s easier). Go on. What’s that? You want an octopus detective? OK, go get Tedrick Gritswell of Borobo Reef and, while you’re there, get Tedrick Gritswell Makes Waves.

Not your thing? Grab Atlas, Broken or the Bullet. Or if you’re into Paranormology, grab all five books and shove them in your cart. Electrons come free, baby, so go nuts.

Then, when you’re done, go and visit some other authors and give them some love. And then… and then… and then read them! That’s part of the whole ‘Read an E-Book’ week deal. If you enjoy them, great! If not, that’s fine too. Oh, and if you don’t mind, please come back and leave a review when you’re done.

If reading really ain’t your thing, might I suggest you listen to the audiobook versions? It’s kinda sorta still almost and E-book, right? It still counts. It’s just that you’re reading with your ears. Yeah. Let’s run with that.

What are you still doing here? Go and read a book!

Read an E-Book week goes until March 7, so get in while you can.

Spoil Yourself

It’s cold in Melbourne. Don’t know if you’ve noticed? No? The ice that covers the car windows? The chill wind that worms through your jacket and tickles your tummy when you’re not paying attention? Ring any bells?

When it’s cold, what should one do? One should, of course, close the doors, throw a blanket over one’s knees and hold that down with a cup of tea and a book.

But you’ve read all of them! There are no more books, right?

Wrong.

Because it’s… wait for it… Smashwords 10th Anniversary Summer (Winter in the Southern Hemisphere) Sale!

Go here: https://www.smashwords.com/books/category/1/newest/1

Wait, wait, it’s not on yet (sad trombone). It’s between 1st of July and the 31st (hopeful clarinet). So if you can hold on for a couple more days (resounding trumpet) you’ve got yourself a treat! Books will be heavily reduced across the board.

Mine? Funny you should ask. They’ll all be free! Go here: https://www.smashwords.com/profile/view/JeremyTyrrell

But don’t stop there, browse the worlds greatest library of independent books and get your glut on!

You’re welcome.

Tedrick released from KDP, and it’s Free until Jan 1st

The KDP thing was OK. Just OK. Wasn’t bad, wasn’t great. Well, that’s not entirely accurate.

The Good: with KDP I was graciously allowed to advertise with Kindle, and the readers of KDP Select could read the book freely.

The Bad: I couldn’t distribute the book under any of the other normal routes, like Barnes and Noble, Apple, Kobo or Google or, of course, Smashwords.

Which means I missed out on promotional periods like the Smashwords End of Year Sale.

Live and learn. Well, you know what? End of Year is today, and the sale is on until tomorrow, so I’ve added all my books as free AND, plus, also, to boot, Tedrick Gritswell is now available in Smashwords!

Head to https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/773708

and get your copy in whatever format you’d like. Be sure to use the coupon code EY100 at the checkout.

Give it a few days and it’ll be up on iTunes and Google and the rest (not free, sorry).

Enjoy!

It’s on again – Smashwords Summer Sale!

Go to www.smashwords.com and have a poke around, fill up your cart with heavily discounted books and give your independent authors the love they crave.

As for me, you can find all of my books for free during this period at:

Good News

Woot! Woot! I’m happy. Can you tell?

Yes, got that much. Why?

To quote Kylie Minogue, “You did it again!

Uh, did what again?

That’s right! It’s amazing how the power of people can manifest. All it took was the power of the internet and the will of others and, boom!

It was a long time coming, heck, several years in fact, but the end result was worth the wait. I wasn’t sure if it was true, so I checked it twice and, sure enough, it’s a fact.

What’s a Fact? Jez, what are you on about?

Why, Adaptation – Part 1 is now perma-free, as it should be, on Amazon. Just like Grosvenor Lane, just like Atlas, Broken. Just like… oh, wait. Jolimont Street Ghost still isn’t free, darn it.

But, hey, let’s celebrate the win, shall we? Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a happy dance to do.Mini Jeztyr Logo

We want you to make it free

You there! Did you know that you already own several of my books?

Open up your favourite e-reader or e-book application and go right ahead. Put in Jeremy Tyrrell into the search bar and go for it. Download and share to your heart’s content.

Wait, are you with Amazon? Well, that might pose a problem.

The Problem

The problem is this: Amazon refuses to allow me to make my books free. I physically cannot, in the little price editor thing that they’ve got, set it to zero or blank or null. In fact, I cannot set it for anything less that 99 cents.

That’s their business model, and, if I wish to distribute with them, I need to follow suit. Fair enough. It’s their platform. Their ones and zeroes. Thing is, my book is my ones and zeroes, and they should be yours, too.

Sure, you can download the .mobi format from the Smashwords site for free, I don’t know how that plays with adding it to your account, or whether you can share it, or if it goes from device to device or what.

And, really, why should you, the reader, pay for something that everyone else gets for free, simply because of the carrier?

The Solution

The solution, I found the other day, is that Amazon will honour competitor’s prices. So, for example, if I were to post one book on iTunes for $5, and on Amazon for $6, Amazon will, wisely, match the $5 price tag (same currency).

The only thing you, as a reader, need to do is inform Amazon of the cheaper price. Above the ‘Author Info’ and below the ‘Product Details’ is a little option to ‘tell us about a lower price’.

To do this, you need to be on the .com website, not the .com.au. It’s not there for some reason. Don’t know, don’t care.

LowerPrice.png

When you click on this, it expands to ask ‘where’ and how much. Bung in a competitor’s page, like the one from Barnes and Noble:

MakeItFree

Here, copy and paste this for Grosvenor Lane Ghost:

http://www.barnesandnoble.com/w/grosvenor-lane-ghost-jeremy-tyrrell/1120385725?ean=2940046187342

And put in 0 for the price and shipping, click Submit Feedback and Bob’s your uncle. It says Thank you for your feedback, and the dialog goes away. I think that it is a manual process to validate, but, I assume, once they’ve approved that it is indeed cheaper at Barnes and Noble, they’ll let you have it for free.

Go nuts with Jolimont Street Ghost, and Atlas, Broken. And Adaptation. You can find the links to them in the side bar of this website.

Boom. Thank you. The books are yours.

Please enjoy them with my compliments and gratitude.Mini Jeztyr Logo

Jolimont Street Ghost – Free at last!

Tada! Please find Jolimont Street Ghost at Smashwords, yours for free, with my compliments, in whatever format you like.

Cue the fireworks and open the champagne. OK, maybe I’ll just crack a beer and watch Hellboy.

You see, I wanted to hold off on the release until I had all my ducks in a row. I wanted it available in printed media, as well as on Google Play and Amazon, get the webpage up, and all of that stuff, but I, um, kind of mucked up the delay thing at Smashwords and, well, long story short: it’s out.

But, hey, it’s out!JolimontStreet

It’s released!

It’ll be up on Barnes and Noble, Amazon, Google Play, iTunes and Kobo in a day or two, and I’ll update the website accordingly, but why wait? Head to Smashwords and bag yourself a free copy now! (Besides, it ain’t gonna be free on Amazon).Mini Jeztyr Logo
